Carnaval began in the southern Netherlands on Friday and runs through Tuesday. It involves dressing in all kinds of customs, drinking and singing silly (aka stupid) songs. Emily told me the chicken dance originate here. Friday about 9:00 the first parade came past our apartment. This one appeared to be for the school children.

This woman is obviously a foreigner and doesn't understand that everything stops for Carnaval.

Sunday was the big parade through Veldhoven. I'm only including a sampling of the sites. By the way it was freezing. I'll include a shot which shows how hard it was sleeting while waiting for the parade to start.
