I decided Saturday would be a good day for a train ride, so I took the train to Haarlem. Haarlem is known for shopping. They have a market in the central square (Grote Markt) and a couple miles (I mean a few kilometers) of streets that are car free. The vendor shops in the Grote Markt weren't as good as the Waterlooplein Flea Market in Amsterdam. I didn't find anything to buy, but it was interesting walking and looking around. And I did kind of figure out the train system, at least the single purchase ticket option. The use of rail passes seemed stage. People scanned their cards randomly on the platforms, not sure what that did for anyone. Here's a couple of photos. The statue is of the man who invited book printing in the Netherlands (at least that is what the map said.)
I added a picture of the bike ramps on the stairs in Den Haag trainstation. Bike parking is tough to find. One section in Haarlem had double decker bike parking.
