Easter Sunday in Roubaix, France

For those not into cycling, Paris-Roubaix is a famous one day cycling classic in France.  There are several of these in Europe.  We just missed the Tour of Flanders, as an example, last weekend.  I'm still afraid to look at a map to see how close it is to us!

Roubaix, France, happens to be pretty much on the France/Belgium border right on our way home from Paris, so we stopped to take in the atmostphere and a few pics.  They have a new velodrome going up that is supposed to be finished for the London Olympics (we aren't sure why?).

TaDa....The winner was again, Tom Boonen.  I say again because he just won the Tour of Flanders last weekend (second person to do this back to back).  He has won Paris-Roubaix four times (second person to do this also).  Here are the awesome shots that Jeff got of the winner in all his glory.

These are what the classics are known for....cobble stones....

We camped out at the last section of cobbles.  By the way, there was a completely well paved road on either side of the cobble median that the riders rode down!

This, ladies, is the hottest thing you will ever see on two wheels!  George Hincappi!!!  I have no idea where he placed in the race, although they usually do expect him to do well.  I saw him up close at the Tour of California a couple of years ago and Ooh, la la!!!  If Jeff were actually posting about P-R, George would not make the cut, so you can all thank me later!
