Ronda, Spain

Isabelle in hiking attire

Isabelle picked out our Paradore in Ronda online.  None of us knew anything about the place, but the pictures were all we needed.  Ronda is situated on a river gorge.  I can't lay claim to any of these pictures since Jeff took them on a hike with the kids too early in the morning for me to be interested.  Ok, I agree, that was a mistake on my part.

Our hotel to the left of bridge,
yes, REALLY!

Monica and Julie, take note:  "The Spanish Paradores are hotels for luxury accommodation in Castles, Palaces, Fortresses, Convents, Monasteries and other historic buildings."  I would now plan any Spanish trip around staying in these!

You can see Spencer and Isabelle's room on the top right balcony.  Jeff and I had the balcony to the right.

Ronda has an amazing history.  They have found prehistoric paintings that date from the Neolithic Age.  It was first settled in the 6th Century BC and Julius Caesar was the first to pronounce it as a city.  Hemingway's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is written with the town as a backdrop.  Ronda is worth a read and a visit.  Here are some thought starters....

Getting to Ronda was also beautiful.  This is one of at least three white washed Andalusian towns that we passed along the way up the mountains to Ronda.
Truly spectacular!
